Chorus 2019 at San Francisco Chorus Trip
(Pictured SEBHS 2019 Advanced Chorus with director, Mr. Brent Whitaker)

Congratulations to the Southeast Bulloch High School Advanced Chorus for earning the highest ranking choir position at the Festival of Gold in San Francisco, California.  Under the leadership of director Brent Whitaker, the Advanced Chorus was invited to participate in the exclusive festival reserved for some of the highest ranking choirs in the nation.  Forty-eight students and nine chaperones traveled to San Francisco for the “Festival of Gold,” and the trip included visits to China Town, the Redwood Forest, Highway One and Half-Moon Bay, Pier 39, and Alcatraz. Participation in the festival is by invitation only, and Southeast Bulloch was ranked alongside nine other exceptional choirs from the West Coast.  After a workshop with world-class directors and a graded performance, the top ranked choir and the choir that ranked second were invited to perform at the encore performance the evening of April 8, 2019.  Directors Dr. Anton Armstrong of the St. Olaf Choir, and Dr. Craig Jessop of the “Singing Sergeants” and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir were both clinicians and judges for the event. The final event included songs performed by the Honor’s Ensemble Choir and the Honor’s Symphony Orchestra comprised of a select group of performers from each school.

This year the Advanced Chorus also celebrates a decade of straight superior ratings from the Large Performance Group Ensemble festival by GMEA.  Special recognition goes to the wonderful Chorus Boosters group that continues to make these opportunities possible.
