Southeast Bulloch cheerleaders Sparkle with gold
Posted 8/21/18

Southeast Bulloch High CheerleadersThe Southeast Bulloch High School Cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association Varsity Spirit Camp on June 14-16 at Georgia Southern University.  For three days, different cheer squads from around Georgia participated in intense training routines, team bonding activities, and several performance competitions.

On Saturday the teams competed against each other with SEBHS racking up the first-place team and individual wins along with some exciting opportunities. The SEBHS Cheer team is now the Rally Routine Champion with their Spilt City performance and the Overall Gold Superior Squad award for strong technique, leading the crowd, and no noticeable errors.  The team also won the “Spirit Stick,” which is given to the squad showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm, while taking into account attitude during classes, promptness, and team cooperation.

Overall, the team walked away with four Gold Superior Ribbons, 2018 Camp Champion trophy,  2018 Superior Jump Off trophy, Leadership Award, four cheerleaders made the All-American Cheerleader team, two cheerleaders were asked to join the UCA Staff, and an invitation for the entire squad to perform in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular parade at Disney World in November.

UCA’s “Jump Off” Award is won by the one cheerleader at camp who shows the strongest technique, highest jumps, and cleanest landing. This year SEBHS is proud to announce that Hannah Clay, 11th grade, was the overall “Jump Off” winner.

During UCA camps the Varsity Staff selects an elite number of cheerleaders for the All-American Cheerleader award which comes with the opportunity to travel to London and participate in an event with other All-American Cheerleaders. In an extraordinary announcement, four SEBHS ladies were chosen as All-American Cheerleaders: seniors Kayla Harville, Coley Nevil, Alyssa Ruarks and junior Lyndsey George.

UCA and Varsity believes that “America Needs Cheerleaders.” They celebrate this by honoring cheerleaders with the Pin It Forward program. It is given to cheerleaders who demonstrate leadership, spirit, commitment to excellence, kindness and motivation. During this camp, UCA Staff picked Kayla Harville to receive the Pin It Forward Award. Part of her job was to also find another girl at the camp who she thought demonstrated what being a cheerleader is and present her with a pin. Senior: Jada Pollett and Junior: Keylee Harmon were presented with pins from other cheerleaders at the camp as well.

Each year at camp, the UCA Director and his staff look for individuals that they feel would be an excellent candidate to join their UCA Staff. Competition Team Captain Kayla Harville and Senior Spirit Leader Coley Nevil were chosen and received applications to apply for UCA Staff.

SEBHS, being the Superior Gold winning team, left with the opportunity to take their sparkle and perform at Disney World in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular parade. The cheer team has the chance to travel on November 28 - December 2 to Disney’s Magic Kingdom and participant in events with other UCA Varsity Superior Gold teams. The team is gearing up for fundraising efforts to make this once in a lifetime opportunity come true.

The SEBHS first-place wins are not the only firsts for the cheer team, the team has three new coaches to add to their roster.  Tiffany T. Todd is the head Sideline/Spirit coach and Heather Brown is the head coach for the Competition Team, both are teachers at SEBHS and have taken on these new roles with excitement along with the new assistant coach to both teams, Courtney Ivey, former SEBHS graduate and cheer alumni.  All three coaches earned their UCA Coaches Credentialing which recognizes coaches for learning alongside their squads, the technical knowledge and hands on training in cheerleading, and through active participation in the camp.

The new coaches were most proud when the SEBHS received the UCA Cheer Team Leadership award. The Leadership award is often seen as the most special one given at camp since the staff has nothing to do with deciding which squad receives it.  The UCA Team Leadership award is voted upon by the teams at camp for a combination of talent, willingness to teach others, positive attitudes, and hard work!
